9th NW has come to an end

The 9th Northern Wave IFF came to an end this sunday.  The festival wants to thank the locals and the authorities in Snæfellsb for making the festival feel so welcome in their town.
With the support of local companies the festival managed to set up a fully equipted cinema in The Freezer theatre that will continue to entertain the guests of the theatre.
A unique and intimate atmosphere was created among locals, families and foreign guests of the festival.
The Northern Wave’s collaboration with The Freezer will continue next year when the festival will celebrate it’s 10th edition.
Apart from a short film marathon and music videos, the festival offered a schedule including a fish course competition, concerts and a first time ever, special program for kids.

The guests of the festival were somewhere between 150-200 at it’s peak. 30 foreign guest came to Iceland to attend the festival and most of them had a film at the festival.14725615_965154346918891_2524664864859669044_nAnna Þóra at Kaffi Rif, organized a pop up restaurant for lunch on her birthday on saturday and the whole festival sang her birthday song to her.

 The short film Cubs by Nanna Kristín Magnúsdóttir was chosen the best Icelandic short film. Best international short film award went to “As Vacas de Wisconsin” by Sara Traba.
The best icelandic music video award went to Logi Hilmarsson for Cryptochrome’s Playdough.

Dögg Mósesdóttir the founder and director of the festival is now on her way to Jihlava International Documentary film festival where she will pitch Northern wave and participate in a pannel about distribution ways for videoart in festivals and museums.
We thank the guests of the fesitval, locals, participants in the fish course competition and local companies for a supporting us and coming to the festival.

The festival is coming up shortly and the program is starting to take it’s final shape. Here is the latest:

A new projection screen 
The festival has had an amazing reception in Snæfellsbær and with the help of the municipality of local companies the festival has been able to invest in a brand new projection screen that will continue to server The Freezer theater after the festival is over. It’s obvious that the Snæfellsbær and the local companies care about culture and see great value in it and we feel deeply grateful for their support.

Honorary guest
The honorary guest of the festival is actress Ilmur Kristjánsdóttir who Icelanders know well and our foreign guests should know from the tv series Trapped and Dagur Kári’s Virgin Mountain amongst other films. Ilmur will answer questions about her carrier as an actress and screenwriter.

We have already confirmed a few bands and musicians that will play and promote their music videos. They are 
Védís Hervör, Futuregrapher, Chryptochrome and Bláskjár.
Fish course competition
1340643c64c14457Apart from a packed program of over sixty international short films, icelandic short films and music videos the festival celebrates it’s annual fish cours competition. The competition has been a hit with the locals and guests of the festival. At the competition everyone is welcome to sign up and compete for the best fish course made with local ingredients.  Iceland’s top chef and restaurant owner Hrefna Rósa Sætran is the judge of the competition. The awards include a gift card for two people of the value of  53.900 isk at the beautiful Hótel Búðir and a gift card for two at the Fish- and Grillmarket, owned by our judge. Anyone can apply here .

Þórey Mjallhvít hreyfimyndagerðarkona

This year we have put a great effort into making a fun children’s program with animation and live action short films. Animator Þórey Mjallhvít will teach children to animate and the result will be shown on sunday 23. of October.  The festival invested in a super 8 projector and some movies for kids, including Bugs Bunny, Donald duck, Chaplin and more. Kids attending the screening will get the chance to thread the films into the projector themselves.

Hátíðin haldin í Frystiklefanum í ár

Alþjóðlega kvikmyndahátíðin Northern Wave verður haldin í 9.sinn helgina 21.-23. október næstkomandi. Hátíðin hefur hingað til verið haldin í Grundarfirði en í ár færir hátíðin sig um bæjarfélag og verður haldin í næsta bæjarfélagi, Snæfellsbæ, nánar tiltekið í Frystiklefanum á Rifi.

Grundfirðingurinn Dögg Mósesdóttir, stjórnandi Northern Wave og Sandarinn Kári Víðarsson eigandi Frystiklefans á Rifi hafa lengi stefnt að samstarfi með hátíðina, sem hefur nú ræst úr.

Í Frystiklefanum á Rifi, sem er gamalt frystihús, er rekið gistiheimili, tónleikastaður, bar og leikhús og þar er frábær aðstaða fyrir hátíð sem Northern Wave. Frystiklefinn býður upp á fjölbreytta dagskrá allt árið en þar eru þrjú sýningarrými en eitt rýmið, gamli frystiklefinn, verður t.a.m. nýttur undir sýningar á vidjóverkum. Hátíðin óskar því sérstaklega eftir vidjóverkum eftir listamenn í ár. umsóknarfrestur fyrir íslenskar stuttmyndir, tónlistarmyndbönd og vidjóverk stendur rennur út 20.ágúst næstkomandi og er sótt um hér á heimasíðunni undir íslenskar stuttmyndir.

Nóg er af gistirými fyrir gesti hátíðarinnar á Rifi, í Ólafsvík og á Hellisandi en við gerum ráð fyrir að dagskráin (sem er enn í vinnslu) verði dreift um þessi bæjarfélög í Snæfellsbæ en far að mestu leiti fram í Frystiklefanum þar sem sýningar á öllum myndum fara fram. Hátíðin sjá til þess að auðvelda gestum samgöngur á milli þeirra bæjarfélaga þar sem aðrir viðburði fara hugsanlega fram.

Við höfum fengið mjög góðar viðtökur frá Snæfellsbæ sem hefur gert okkur kleift að færa hátíðina þangað. Við vonumst til Grundfirðingar, sem og fólk af nesinu öllu, sæki hátíðina heim í Snæfellsbæ.

Enn er möguleiki á að einhverjir dagskrárliðir fari fram á Grundarfirði þar sem bæjaryfirvöld hafa mikinn áhuga á að halda samstarfi við hátíðina áfram og hátíðin ber sterkar taugar til Grundarfjarðar þar sem hátíðin hefur farið fram undanfarin 8 ár.

Við erum ánægð með þetta nýja samstarf við Frystiklefann á rifi og vonumst til þess að þetta opni á frekara menningarsamstarf meðal bæjarfélaganna á Snæfellsnesi.

Skilafrestur framlengdur

Skilafrestur fyrir íslenskar stuttmyndir og tónlistarmyndbönd hefur verið framlengdur til 20. ágúst næstkomandi.
